Randwick Guineas – 2022

Thirteen runners have accepted for the $1,000,000 Group 1 Randwick Guineas. Bjorn Baker and Chris Waller will saddle up two runners apiece whilst the rest only have one entry, and there are no runners coming into this race first-up.  The early favourite in the betting market is the James Cummings-trained Anamoe.  He is coming off a hard-fought win in the Hobartville Stakes, where he was headed and kept fighting. He is going to appreciate the extra distance yet he hasn’t run on a track like this before. Next in the betting is Converge, who is coming of a 2 length defeat by Anamoe in the Hobartville Stakes.

Hilal was the horse that made Anamoe find another gear in the Hobartville Stakes and he has drawn well for the battle at a mile. War Eternal was impressive last start on the heavy going but is coming from a benchmark 78 to this Group 1 event.

Deserved favourite. Unknown on this sort of ground though which has to be a query but there is no doubting his class.

2. Converge (6)

Going to love being back up to the mile but he is another that is unknown on this sort of ground. He will need to lift.

3. Hilal (4)

This bloke won’t mind the sting out of the ground, but heavy is unknown. Took Anamoe on late in the race but just couldn’t beat him. Mile suits and can be a thorn again.

4. Coastwatch (11)

Entered for here and Caulfield. Coming off a nice win in the Caufield Stakes but is unproven over the mile and on this ground.

5. Forgot You (7)

No heavy track form but will appreciate the mile. Also entered in Melbourne. Place chance if he runs.

6. Ranch Hand (1)

Another who is entered for Melbourne and has no heavy track form. Is third-up but looks outclassed compared to the top three in the market.

7. Military Expert (13)

Coming from a victory in a benchmark 72 midway. Will put himself in the race from the wide gate but there is no heavy form, soft form okay. Place chance

8. Raging Bull (12)

Second-up and goes okay on the soft and ran respectably on heavy early in career. Probably wants further.

9. Royalzel (10)

Going to love the going but is outclassed.

10. War Eternal (2)

Was impressive in benchmark 78 company on a soft track. Best rating has come on a heavy track early in his career and he has a placing in group company prior. Chance.

11. Sword Point (3)

In good form winning two of his past three. Unknown on the wet and is dropping back from 2000m off a 49 day freshen-up. Will likely be handy again which will give him every chance but he will need some Waller magic here.

12. Sinba (8)

Going for three runs on the trot after solid wins in much weaker grade at Newcastle and Kensington. Will need to be better.

13. Sea Treasures (5)

Will appreciate the mile and the going but looks outclassed.
