Hobartville Stakes – 2022

Track: Good – Soft Weather: Likely Cloudy.

Fourteen runners have accepted for the $400,000 Group 2 Hobartville Stakes.  Chris Waller will saddle up three runners, James Cummings and Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott have two runners and there are two runners coming into this race first-up.  The early favourite in the market is James Cummings trained Anamoe.  He is coming off a nice performance in the Expressway Stakes, he was faced with a mighty task as the favourite, having to make a run on a track that favoured those on the rail and in the lead. Next in the betting is Converge, who comes into this race after a solid placing behind Paulele in the Eskimo Prince where he was arguably in the wrong part of the track and should have gone closer to winning.

Ranch Hand comes out of the same race as Converge and managed to beat him on the day. Hilal is also coming from that race and was fourth lengths back in fifth, which wasn’t a bad run for a horse first-up and wanting further. Silent Impact was disappointing behind Maotai in a Benchmark 78 event a fortnight ago.

Speed Map:

1. Anamoe (9)

Classy colt who despite losing last time out, lost no admirers. Up to a much kinder distance and should prove hard to beat.

2. Converge (11)

The only logical chance to knock off the favourite. Will appreciate the step-up in distance and will give the favourite something to catch.

3. Alegron (4)

Resuming. Two trials in preparation for this. Will be hitting the line, wants further.

4. Hilal (1)

Solid last start. Steps up to a kinder distance for him and he has drawn well. Not the worst.

5. Ranch Hand (7)

Was good first-up. Should get a bit more pace in this race so that suits. Best figures over 1200m though so that’s a query.

6. Giannis (10)

Reared and was four lengths last at the start of the race, forgive. Going up in distance suits. Place chance.

7. Mana Nui (14)

Scratched.

8. Royalzel (3)

Can’t see it troubling these, would love some rain.

9. Raging Bull (6)

Resuming. Will be looking for further.

10. Maurice’s Medad (5)

Huge run from this bloke first-up. Drawn well here and will kick up and be in the front group. The extra distance suits and figures suggest he wants a touch further. Place chance.

11. Silent Impact (13)

Disappointing last start behind Maotai. Probably end up being a bunny for Converge.

12. Subterranean (12)

Better than what he did last start. Further distance suits. These are too good though.

13. Kiss Sum (2)

Prefer others.

14. War Eternal (15)

Scratched.

15. Flying Crazy (8)

Big step up from a Class 1. Others.
