2019 Melbourne Cup Preview & Tips:
Track: Good Weather: Fine
A full field of 24, including two mares, will line up for the $7,750,000 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup. Joseph O’Brien has four runners, D & B Hayes & T Dabernig and Aidan O’Brien have three runners each and Chris Waller has two. The Lloyd Williams family has three runners while Godolphin only have one this year. The betting is fairly open, as always, and the early favourite is Caulfield Cup winner Mer De Glace who is the only Japanese horse in the race. Second favourite is Constantinople who has had a similar preparation to the last two Cup winners. Third favourite is Finche who ran 4th in the Melbourne Cup last year and has the same weight again.
Vow And Declare is Australian-bred and is a genuine stayer. Cross Counter won the Melbourne Cup last year and although he has a lot more weight he can carry it. Il Paradiso has won a 3200m race by 12 lengths. Surprise Baby is sired by Shocking who won the 2009 Melbourne Cup and could be a star in the making. Prince Of Arran was 3rd in the Melbourne Cup last year and will run well again. All other runners are currently 18 to 1 or longer, including Downdraft who was an impressive winner of the Hotham Handicap on Saturday. As always there are many hopes and a long price doesn’t stop them winning.
The trifecta and first four should pay heaps so have fun putting your favourites in some multiples.
