Our Geelong Horse Racing Tips for Tuesday’s meeting.

Red Santa (Geelong Race 4 No. 5)

This three-year-old Redwood gelding trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace ran 2nd twice from three starts in his first campaign. He took over at the 600m then was headed at the 100m and fought on for 0.75 length 2nd over 1600m at Moonee Valley on 11 December, then ran a similar race for 1.25 length 2nd over 1700m at Warrnambool on 31 December. Resumes here from a 15 week break following gelding, and is ready to win this maiden.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Media Award (Geelong Race 6 No. 15):

Trained by Chris Calthorpe at Geelong, this three-year-old Shamus Award filly has a win and two places from four starts. She finished 0.1, 2.5 lengths 3rd on a heavy track over 1715m at Geelong on 22 December, then charged to the front at the 150m and raced away for a 3.75 length win over 1479m at Kyneton to break her maiden status. Looks worth an each-way bet.

Tadashi Hamada(Geelong Race 7 No. 4):

This three-year-old Excelebration gelding is the early favourite in this BM 64 handicap over 1300m. He settled just off the pace then took over inside the 300m to win by 0.2 length over 1450m at Geelong on 14 August, then he battled on steadily for 5.15 length 7th in a class 1 handicap over 1400m at Bendigo on 16 September. I think there are a couple of better horses in the race and he offers no value.

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight.
