Lindsey Smith’s speed machine Elderflower will be looking to make it three wins in a row when he lines up in heat 13 of the 55 second challenge on Friday night. He has been dominant from the front at his last two starts. On January 13 he won by 2.75 lengths at Caulfield and then a week later won by 3.5 lengths at this course/distance. He should be able to find the front again and take a power of running down.
I thought this three year-old son of Unencumbered’s maiden victory at Geelong last start was full of merit – he sat outside the lead there and was powerful through the line. Here he maps to get a nice run in behind the speed and the step up to 1600m should be to his liking. He looks a progressive type and I think he can make his presence felt in a winnable benchmark 64.
Resurge has come up as the early favourite in race three on Friday night. He was a touch unlucky when running fourth here over 2040m on January 22, however this is not an overly strong race and he seems rock bottom odds for a horse that has only won three races from twenty three attempts. Happy to risk him.

Best Bet Sardonyx (Scone Race 2 No.3 ) A key scratching comes out and leaves Sardonyx very hard to beat. Maps well, Bullock steers and gets the right race here. Our Newcastle tips for Monday's meeting. Key Comments The rail is in 5 metres. Heavy conditions expected so looking towards runners that are proven on wet tracks. Best Bet Dale (Newcastle Race 6 No. 2) No prizes for finding this runner but put in a solid effort on debut and drops miles in grade. In smartly at the weights here and with no jockey booked yet does look very hard to hold out in this thin maiden. $1.40 l
Our Nowra Tips for Monday's meeting. Key Comments The track is in the heavy range. The rail is true. Best Bet Deni Gal (Nowra Race 7 No. 4) None of these win out of turn but Deni Gal has good claims with a superb record at the track and a good record with Guymer steering. He has won twice from 6 goes aboard which is a very good sign given the horse is 3 wins from 22 starts. Hard to beat and maps
