Horse Racing Tips : TAS Wednesday 18th October 2023

Our Launceston Horse Racing Tips for Wednesday.

Rail: +4m (Previously +2m)
Surface: Good 4/Soft 5

Notes: The Launceston track has recently undergone some repairs and has raced well thus far this season.

As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with an advantage to those who find the inside lanes in the straight.

Jockeys to follow:
– Brendon McCoull: 22.7%SR @ 11.1% POT @ Launceston
– Erica Byrne Burke: 21%SR @ 69% POT Last 100 Runners

Trainers to follow:
– Graeme McCulloch 7.4%SR @ 8.4% POT @ Launceston
– Barry Campbell: 17.2%SR @ Launceston

Best Bet

Geegees City Boy (Launceston Race 1 No. 4)

Tough night of racing to find a best bet with any huge conviction, but I really liked the recent trial of GEE GEES CITY BOY where he edged out PUNK PRINCESS late, who has subsequently won 1st up – he was under a firm grip there late and found when the late pressure arrived.

He was well-fancied during his 3YO season and looks to have returned a more seasoned gelding. If he can sit handy and land in behind the leaders I think he has the potential upside to run them down late.

$4.20 (at time of writing).

How to pick a winner

Best Each Way

Mindful (Launceston Race 2 No. 11):

Pretty open contest in my opinion, and went looking around the short priced favourite STONE COLD STUNNER (who although a touch unlucky last start, is priced far too short vs its ability). MINDFUL is one horse whose gone round at huge prices her last couple starts, and has been hitting the line nicely.

There’s not a huge amount of speed on paper here and with veteran on-speed rider Siggy Carr taking the steer I think she might be able to lob a touch closer from the middle draw, versus last start where she drew wide and was forced to drift back to near last.

I think she’s knocking on the door to break her maiden and with even luck this could be her race.

$11.00/3.00 (at time of writing) – I will be backing at TT/SP on a 1×3 each-way basis

Best Lay

Stone Cold Stunner (Launceston Race 2 No. 12):

Token “unlucky” runner that’s gone up the price of a moral. Not sure Glenn Stevenson has been able to recapture her early Victorian form and with Codi Jordan riding in career worst form (Last 50 Rides – 6% SR @ -70% ROI), I’m happy to oppose given the slightly tricky draw in a big field – will need luck.

Horse Racing Tips: NSW Saturday 18th January 2025

Key Comments On pace runners typically suited here. The best bet comes up earlier on in the day and can build off a solid second placing when first up in what is a highly suitable field. Best Bet Firework (Wyong Race 2 No. 1) Put the writing on the wall fresh in a race no harder than this. Latham is an eye catching booking and this field lacks depth. With even luck from the wide draw should be going close. Check odds
