Our Hobart Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

Make A Decision (Hobart Race 5 No. 2)

Make A Decision looks the good thing of the card. This gelding from the Sarah Cotton stable is untapped, and has been impressive in his two career starts. When resuming this prep he ran into a smart one in Title Shot from the Stevenson yard. Although resuming off 30+ days, he’s had two solid trials since, where he won both with plenty left in the tank. Should map off the speed, and under the steering of apprentice Lizzie Annells prove too good for his rivals. The early price looked highway robbery, but I am bullish that black figures is a fair price for this runner.

Music Addition (Hobart Race 1 No. 2)

Similar to last week, we’ll be looking for Darmanin/Stevenson combination to get us off to a positive start.

Music Addition looks well placed here to register his 2nd TAS victory. He’s a genuine box ticker. Likely leader, race fit, drop in weight and back to his ideal trip, and the pilot and trainer are absolutely airborne, particularly when they pair up! Looks a cracking bet to start the card. Coronation Keith the obvious danger, but can’t get him that short with Baker back on board and 1st up off a disappointing prep last time in.

Coronation Apache (Hobart Race 3 No. 2)

Coronation Apache debuts for the Sigrid Carr yard in Race 3, and at the current price looks a great each-way bet. This horse is well bred and has been given time to get to the race track. He’s had four solid trials going in, and looks to improve each and every time he’s stepped out, I was most taken by the last two behind Lim’s Cruiser at Hobart – the rising 9YO who goes around at Flemington on Saturday. In a race where most, if not all runners have plenty of convictions, happy to play with the potential upside this runner has on the field.

Best Lay

Nicco The Greek (Hobart Race 2 No. 3)

Nicco The Greek flew home last start and no doubt went straight into everyone’s black book. On reviewing the race, his run probably looked better on the eye than it did on the clock. They absolutely walked, and after missing the kick 2-3 lengths he sprinted home to be narrowly beaten. Admittedly he deserves favouritism here, given he’s still lightly raced and on his home track, but from Gate 11 and after missing the kick last start, I have to be against him here at the current price of $1.85. I hope he drifts out to around the $3.00 mark (similar market move to last start), in which case he’d be around the right price to back.

LAY at < $2.50

Broadway Babe (Hobart Race 4 No. 4)

Broadway Babe returned nice enough last start to warrant being in the market in this race, but probably not as short as she’s come up. She comes out of the same race as Nicco The Greek and although her run may have looked flashy to the eye, she was entitled to sprint home well off such a slow tempo (10L slow to the 600m for the class). She’s come up $1.80 in early betting, and for a 12 start maiden, it’s a firm NO THANK YOU from me. I found the race quite even and actually had SISTINE favourite, on resumption – happy to be strongly against Broadway Babe.

Horse Racing Tips: VIC Sunday 28th April 2024

Key Comments 8 race card with a few short favourites that look hard to beat. The best bet comes up in race 5 and is knocking on the door for a win. Best Bet Subrising (Ballarat Race 5 No. 6) Comes off the back of 2 second placings and Egan will ride from the wide draw. A lot to like about the past few runs and looks a better hope than the favourite who may just get too far back in this.
