Horse Racing Tips : TAS Sunday 16th July 2023

Our Devonport Horse Racing Tips for Sunday.

Key Comments

Rail: True (Previously True)
Surface: All-Weather Turf (Synthetic)

Notes: The Devonport track has raced pretty well all season as we head into the last meeting. It should be relatively fair, but it’s worth noting that the rail hasn’t been a great place to be in recent times with wear and tear. Any notable bias will largely be tempo dependent. As this is a synthetic tapeta-based surface, weather has minimal effect on how it races.

As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight.

– Nigel Schuuring: Career 14%SR @ 22.3% POT @ Devonport

Best Bet

Vivilici (Devonport Race 7 No. 2):

I have a huge opinion of this mare. A touch unlucky last prep not to have 2 wins from 2 starts, competing against some handy horses. Has trialled solidly coming into this, showing improvement between outings. Think the price is genuine robbery on an each-way basis.

$7.00/2.20 (strong bet on a 2×3 basis)

How to pick a winner

Best Each Way

Indigo Girls (Devonport Race 8 No. 11):

Going well this prep without running into the money. Comes out of a strong race and with a smart claim from Chelsea Baker looks well-placed. In what is a wide-open contest I thought  this mare could run an economical race from the draw and improve at her 2nd go at the mile this prep.

$21.00/5.50 (backing on a 1×4 each-way basis at BSP)

Araptor (Devonport Race 2 No. 2):

Absolutely low flying this horse, but can’t jump out of the machines to save himself. Senior rider goes on, and although he’ll likely be back in the run, if Troy Baker can find a backside early and get a tow into the race he’s more than capable of letting rip down the outside.

$21.00/5.50 (backing on a 1×4 each-way basis at BSP)

Best Lay

Ian’s Finale (Devonport Race 1 No. 11):

Looks very short for a horse I thought would cop enough early pressure to make crossing to a handy position from the barrier a tough ask. Admittedly was unlucky last start when trapped wide without cover and going down narrowly but the same outcome could take place here and at the price I think he’s worth taking on, more than backing.
