Our Devonport Horse Racing Tips for Sunday’s meeting.

All Weather – Rail True

Race 1 – 1650m BM68

Tricky little race to start the card. Expecting a slow tempo here with the small field. INCRIMINATE should take up the running, from GEEGEES FIRST LADY and DARGO, followed by ROCK THE BOWLER, SHAMPZ AGAIN and BARJEEL. I suspect this race will set up for the runner who can sprint best of a slow tempo. If ROCK THE BOWLER can sit off the speed, I think he will be first home for the red hot Stevenson camp (20% SR Last 50 runners). He finally gets to the mile, and after a couple of flashing runs, he looks ready to peak here in his 3rd run in TAS.

Selections: 3-5-1-2

Suggested bet:  BACK – Rock The Bowler for 1 unit

Race 2 – 1009m Maiden

First maiden of the day, and despite the early price of STARNOTE, I don’t think this race is as clear cut as early markets make out. LACERATE finally draws inside and on the home track, with the nose roll going on can settle in the lead and hopefully in a more relaxed manner. STARNOTE should also land on speed, resuming after being in the market in a hot race on debut. BOLD INSTINCT debuts for a new stable off the back of a good debut prep, and a solid trial. ROCK’EM BABY debuts for the Hanson stable off a good trial at the track.

Selections: 12-2-8-10

Suggested bet:  BACK – LACERATE for 0.25 units each-way

Suggested bet:  LAY – STARNOTE for 1 unit liability at < $3.30

Race 3 – 1350m Maiden

Another maiden, and as the market suggests this is a pretty even bunch. Think SILVER PERSUASION, EGAO, EIGHT MARGARITAS and SILENT LOVE have the most upside of the raced brigade but any horse could win this. I’m most interested in the debutant for team Trinder, RUNS LIKE WATER. Won a trial at the track, but very unlike the stable to debut one at 1350m fully wound up – will look to follow in the next couple runs.

Selections: 4-9-3-8

Suggested bet:  NO BET

Race 4 – 1650m Class 1

Nice little race this, a few of these runners look to have a good future in TAS. NAMABAALE was off the map on debut for the Stevenson camp, racing three-wide and still putting away his rivals, over 1350. In the same race, the winning post came up too soon for BIG JOHN who’s been getting back over shorter trips, in his two career starts. He looks to have a stack of ability, and popular pilot Brendon McCoull sticks for Adam Trinder. SPIRITED TOFF was unlucky last start when rattling home, after missing the kick, but his form looks inferior. I can’t go past the two runs of BIG JOHN this campaign and gets to the mile in what looks to be a target on the calendar for Adam Trinder.

Selections: 5-3-4-1

Suggested bet:  BACK – BIG JOHN for 1.5 units

Race 5 – 1150m Class 1

Tough race. REDOLLIX is 1st up for Sigrid Carr from Victoria and has been scratched a couple times in previous weeks, opting for this contest. LORD WHITEGATE resumes after breaking his maiden last prep. He trialled well at the track and I expect him to be fit and ready 1st up. DAWN EAGLE has won two trials going into this and went up a decent price, but no value now. DREAMING TORONADO has been going alright and is an honest on-pacer, but comes out of slow races. DADORABLE flashed home last start and wouldn’t surprise here. QUEENS THE WORD looks the likely leader and despite a betting drift held on last start, doubt she can do so again.

Selections: 4-2-1-5

Suggested bet:  NO BET

Race 6 – 1150m BM76

Very keen on this race. JULIUS returned off 400+ days last start and led them up after slightly missing the kick from the wide alley. He went out very fast for the class, around 5L fast to the 600m and punctured late – expected given his lay off from injury. He looks to be fit and healthy and has relished fast tempo races previously. I think he can strip fitter from the 1st up hit out and be too good here. GEE GEE PLANE the obvious danger, relishes the track and distance and was able to grab JULIUS in the last couple of strides, last start. ARTUSO and ANCONA can go close, along with REWARD ACHIEVER.

Selections: 7-3-8-5

Suggested bet:  BACK – JULIUS for 2 units

Race 7 – 1009m Restricted 62 HCP

Not keen on this race at all. ETOSHA should give a sight if ridden positively, watch the market late, this should reveal their tactics from the wide alley – money stable! RHYME WRITER will be coming home as he always does. ISKRA should be on-pace and with Siggy taking the ride should be given every hope, however this looks a touch short of the mare’s best trip. BETHPAGE ran home super 1st up at Hobart, expect her to further improve on the home track for Team Stevenson.

Selections: 1-12-3-11

Suggested bet:  NO BET

Race 8 – 1350m BM68

Even race. RISING HSIANG has been ridden quiet in his last two starts, strange for a horse who’s known for bowling along up on speed. Stable apprentice goes on, this could be the improver of the field if ridden positively. FREELANCER resumes but can’t have it at this distance, should go better out in trip. FREAK ON A LEAD and IMAGINE HOWE all but dead-heated last start at Hobart. I suspect IMAGINE HOWE to have the advantage this time round, with most Scott Brunton runners legless away from home (Hobart). SKILENDRA always runs an honest race and has to be respected.

Selections: 5-4-1-2

Suggested bet:  BACK – Rising Hsiang for 0.5 units each-way

Race 9 – 1880m BM62

DRAMAZING has been going super and had the measure of ALWAYS A WINNER last start over the mile. They both meet again here, and I don’t see a change in result. Even if ALWAYS A WINNER is gifted a soft lead, I think DRAMAZING has a superior turn of foot and is most suited at the trip. Despite having a win over the 2150m trip, I think the Nishitani runner is best served at the mile, and had all favours when winning over the longer trip. GREGORIAN CHANT gets the blinkers back and can improve off of a flat couple of runs, should be rattling home.

Selections: 2-3-1-4

Suggested bet:  BACK – DRAMAZING for 2 units
