Best Bet | Race 2 #3 Garoppolo

Have got a lot of time for this horse and he ticks plenty of boxes in this race. He’s unbeaten at this track after winning on debut with a devastating win coming from last. It’s hard to fault his form this preparation, beaten narrowly by Garibaldi first-up and then running into Mass Destruction second-up. He’s drawn to get the perfect run midfield on the fence and can hit the line hard, either up on the fence or picking a run through the pack. The only slight query is four weeks between runs up to 1400m, but I’m sure the work has been kept up to him.

Next best | Race 1 #6 Caffrey

Caffrey finds a pretty suitable race here for his first-up run in Queensland. Previously trained in Victoria by Peter Moody, this 6yo gelding should appreciate life in the sunshine state. From 16 starts, he’s recorded four wins and more often than not ran in the top four. He’s had one trial in Queensland, running fourth over 1000m behind Syd’s Footprints. He’s a pretty fast horse so to be only a few lengths off him was a good performance. Jimmy Byrne took the ride in the trial and stays on for this race assignment. He goes well fresh and the 1400m should suit.

Best each-way | Race 7 #1 Profit

A bit of an enigma but he loves this track, with two wins from three starts. His only blemish at this track was when beaten at listed level by King of Hastings last preparation. This is much easier. While he was well-beaten last start, running second-last to Eleven Eleven at listed level on the Gold Coast, he was only beaten 4.8 lengths. Third-up to 1600m suits and from barrier five he should get every chance.
