Best bet: Race 2 #6 Iolite

I’m hoping they found the key to this speedster last start when they rode him further back at the Gold Coast. He had previously been a leader, but it appears they’ve taught him to settle and finish off his races. It adds another important string to his bow. The wide gate is a touch concerning, and Corey Bayliss will need to sum the situation up quickly as to whether he goes forward or replicates last start and rides him a little colder. I think he’s the best horse in the race over this sprint trip, he just needs a suitable ride and he should be winning.

Next best: Race 9 #1 Gee Tee Tee

Track specialist who has only missed a place here once from seven attempts. He’s a sizeable animal who appreciates the big Sunshine Coast circuit. I loved his recent trial at Eagle Farm, and I’m predicting this 6yo is set for his most lucrative preparation to date. The middle draw gives jockey Ben Thompson plenty of options once the gates open, but ideally he’ll be looking to be one-out, and either one or two pairs back.

Best each-way: Race 4 #7 Our Red Planet

This 3yo gelding by Exosphere screams of a horse will lap up the wide expanses of the Sunshine Coast. He’s a big animal with a lengthy stride and the wide draw will mean he won’t be cluttered up on the inside. Larry Cassidy retains the steer after finishing off well last start over 1400m at Eagle Farm. Third-up to a mile at a suitable track looks ideal.
