Best bet: Race 3 #12 Just Glamourous

Supremely-bred 2yo filly out of G1 performer Global Glamour. The Waterhouse-Bott team have engaged the services of James McDonald in an attempt to win this race and back her up the following week in the Magic Millions 2yo race. She drew wide on debut at Warwick Farm and went back to last, despite beginning quickly. It was also a day which wasn’t easy to make ground, but she still powered to the line to finish fourth, beaten less than a length. Her best work was certainty right on the line and beyond. She can sit much closer here and be right in the firing line. She should have too much class for her rivals.

Next best – Race 5 #9 Junquiera

Went enormous first-up at Warwick Farm three weeks ago and this race looks the perfect progression. She drew wide last start, was snagged back to last and made a wide run to finish less than a length off the winner. She did make the turn a touch awkwardly, which is some concern, but from the better draw here they should sit midfield (which was the stable’s intention last start). The market is trending towards her starting favourite and she should prove awfully hard to beat. Barrier one is a concern for the favourite, while many of the other fancies have drawn much wider.

Best each way – Race 8 #9 Head of State

Very interesting placement here from the Waller stable and even more interesting than James McDonald has been booked for this feature Wave race. It’s not often you get $15 about one of his rides in a feature race. This horse never really fired last prep but his form in the campaign prior would be way too good for his rivals. It included beating Profondo in the G3 Gloaming. During that prep he won first-up, only over the 1300m, and McDonald was aboard. It proves he can win fresh and gives some insight into why the camp have set him for this race. And whilst his last prep was underwhelming, his trial in preparation for this race was encouraging. He poked up on the inside and finished stylishly. The blinkers also go on here. Huge value in what is not a strong race.
