Best bet – Race 4 #1 Head of State

Finally delivered for us last start after coming off two encouraging runs in Queensland. He’s in class officially, and that’s why he drops 4kg, but this race really doesn’t look any harder. He was afforded a charmed run at this track last start and delivered – scoring an authoritative win. It confirms he goes well at Eagle Farm, which is a big tick. Finds another small field and that should suit him. He appears the type of former Sydney horse who can easily string a few wins together in Queensland. Only fourth up and can keep improving. We may have missed the price, but he looks a standout.

Next best – Race 7 #10 Delyth

She was a bit plain last start at the Sunshine Coast when a long odds-on favourite but happy to forgive that performance. First-up she was wide and not beaten that far behind the flying King Kapa. What I like most is her two runs here at Eagle Farm – beaten half a length to Amathuba and two lengths off Go Wandji. She also goes best deeper into prep too. Great chance.

Best each way – Race 8 #4 Osamu

Doubt we’ll go wrong here playing this bloke on an each-way basis. He’s 3/5 at this track and at this distance. From the nice draw, jockey Ben Thompson will have options on whether he leads or takes a sit just off them. Last time when first up here he went to the front and won super impressively – and wouldn’t be surprised to see Thompson adopt similar tactics here. It’s his third prep now in Queensland and I just think he’s the one who can go to a new level this time in.
