Best bet | Race 4 #3 Enterprise Attack

Was heavily-backed last start at Eagle Farm and got the money – but only be the barest of margins. The second place-getter (Lubrication) loomed up outside Enterprise Attack, and looked the winner after building a full head of steam down the middle of the track. This occurred whilst the jockey of Enterprise Attack (Boris Thornton) sat quiet after having a charmed run behind the leader. He eventually got busy on the $1.40 favourite and kicked right on the line to gain the money by a nose. It was a tough effort for a horse at his second start and there was a big gap to the third horse, which is always a good sign. Enterprise Attack is still a colt, but he’s drawn perfectly again in barrier four and the step up to 1350m looks ideal.

Next best | Race 5 #2 Applications

A horse in good form and loves the sting out of the track. The forecast originally had some rain on race day, but it appears to have eased off. Given the recent rain there’ll be some give in the way even if the rain doesn’t arrive. Applications trounced his rivals last start here at Doomben, beating Adalissa by 3.3 lengths. He meets her again here, and there is a 1kg weight swing against Applications. But I don’t think it’ll matter as he’s once again drawn to get a soft run, either in the lead or box-seating, while Adalissa does it tough from a wide gate. He’s also two-from-two at this distance and likes this track. Any additional softness in the track is just a bonus.

Best each-way | Race 3 #5 Tranquil Bay

Ben Thompson trialled the favourite for this race (Bulloo) but has stuck with this daughter of Cable Bay. I’m hoping it’s a good lead, however, the connections of Bulloo may also have elected to use the apprentice claim off the topweight. Either way, I think Tranquil Bay is a mare with a bright future and she has certainly enjoyed the switch from Victoria to Queensland. She’s won two of her three starts in her new surroundings with trainer Rob Heathcote, and she was ultra-impressive winning her past two at the Sunshine Coast. She was given a great ride by Thompson to win last start and she’ll need to improve again to win this race – but I think she’s up to it.
