Best bet: Race 9 #12 Morethannumberone
Talented gelding aiming to take his record under gun trainer Michael Costa to four wins in five starts when he lines up at BM85 Handicap under jockey Andrew Mallyon. He’s a quirky horse but the key is getting him to travel comfortably and Mallyon knows how to do that. His sectionals winning previously have been enormous. The only way he gets beat is if he doesn’t travel on a potentially hot tempo, but I still expect him to round them up and win. He’s a smart horse.
Next best: Race 1 #8 Sawwtie
Trialled up brilliantly this filly by I Am Invincible. She was hard held and wide running 48 seconds over the 800m on soft going. She’s clearly got plenty of talent and trainer Tony Gollan predicts she’ll play a part in the bigger upcoming races in Queensland. Gate one is a big plus here too for a first starter.
Best each-way: Race 5 #7 Nord Lyon
Faces a much tougher race but he’s a 3yo of good ability. He’s been narrowly run down at his two race starts by smart animals. On both occasions he was well on the market. I like that he has a fitness over some of his rivals here with the two runs under his belt.
