Tricky day to find a best but have settled on the 2 year old Lafargue who was scratched from a harder race at Caulfield last week to run here. He has impressed in his two recent jump outs at Flemington and Werribee hitting the line strongly in both. I like him drawn out in barrier ten and think he might have a class edge on his rivals here.
Reykjavik was luckless, when finishing sixth in last weeks Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool for the second consecutive year. Last year he spring boarded off that run to win an open handicap here at Flemington in wet conditions at his next start. Appears to have found a winnable race to attempt to do the same thing again this year.
Surecan has come up as the early favourite in race two. She broke her maiden two back on a soft track at Ballarat, then worked home solidly behind Spring Break at Geelong in a benchmark 58 last time. She takes a big step up in grade here and loses the services of John Allan. Happy to risk.

As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with an advantage to those who find the inside lanes in the straight. Best Bet Don't Be Dramatic (Alice Springs Race 3 No. 2) He's raced 3 times for 2 wins and a 2nd. Last start he bolted in for a 4.3 length win over 1100m here and looks the good thing of the day. $1.55 Best
Our Ascot Horse Racing Tips for Saturday’s meeting. Key Comments The track is Good and the rail is +6 metre for the entire circuit. The feature race is the $125,000 Detonator Stakes (race 8). Best Bet Siren Assault (Ascot Race 2 No. 7) This filly led and beat all except the talented Golden Vale on debut then was sent for a spell. She resumes after 17 weeks on the back of 2 excellent trials. Has drawn well and should be hard to beat, $2.50
