Our Balaklava Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

Sanbuck  (Balaklava Race 5 No. 4)
This four-year-old Reward For Effort gelding trained by Byron Cozamanis has two wins and nine places from 21 starts. He was held up from the turn to the 200m and just battled evenly once clear for 3.1 lengths 5th over 1100m at Strathalbyn on 26 May, then drove through to lead on the rails and kept going for a 2.3 length win over 1100m at Gawler on a soft track on 16 June. That was a dominant win and a repeat of that effort would see him win here.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Turf Tapper (Balaklava Race 7 No. 4):
This seven-year-old gelding has six wins and 11 places from 48 starts and has two wins over this distance. He sat off the pace before peeling wide between runners to chase solidly and just miss for 0.5 length 2nd over 1100m at Strathalbyn on 26 May, then he never looked likely when 8.7 lengths 7th over 1100m at Gawler on 16 June. He has the speed toovercome the wide barrier draw and might appreciate the extra distance at this stage of his preparation. He is worth an each-way wager.

Best Lay

Zeppa (Balaklava Race 8 No. 4):
This three-year-old Foxwedge gelding trained by Tony McEvoy is the early favourite in this BM 58 handicap over 1609m. He battled steadily for 4.9 lengths 7th over 1500m at Bendigo on 16 May, then ran on strongly from 12th to make good ground in the final 200m and finish 3.1 lengths 2nd over 1800m at Murray Bridge on 13 June. He has only won one of his 11 starts and I’m prepared to risk him.

Horse Racing Tips: WA Wednesday 23rd October 2024

Key Comments There are 8 races on a soft track where the rail is +7 metres the entire circuit. Best Bet Mai Aloha (Belmont Race 7 No. 9) She was runner-up at the first 2 starts of her career then went to York last start where she led all the way to win her maiden by 1.5 lengths. William Pike sticks and she looks capable of back-to-back wins. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Jo Jackson

Horse Racing Tips: NSW Tuesday 22nd October 2024

Key Comments The track is in the soft 6 range. Looking no further than the first race of the day for the best bet who has trialled up very well and will take a power of beating on debut. Best Bet Socrazyinlove (Orange Race 1 No. 10) Trials have been excellent and the stable have opted for this race as the right target. Collett rides from the good draw, the early market support is ideal and this race looks very much within reach.

Horse Racing Tips: VIC Tuesday 22nd October 2024

Key Comments Expecting on pace runners to be suited on this tight turning track. The best bet will need some luck from the wide draw but does its best racing here. Best Bet Brooklyn Baby (Kyneton Race 7 No. 5) Boasts a strong first up record and very good record at the track. Keating knows the horse very well and he can land it up on speed from the wide draw. Around the $7.50 mark at time of typing is strong odds.

Horse Racing Tips: NSW Tuesday 22nd October 2024

Key Comments The track is in the soft range. The best bet has been a model of consistency lately and can score a well overdue win. Expecting the track to suit leaders as it traditionally does. Best Bet Ausbred Cooee (Grafton Race 3 No. 5) Due for a win off back to back placings and this looks if anything, slightly easier than last start despite reading the same grade. In very well at the weights after the claim, flies on this track and
