Our Balaklava Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

El Magnificence  (Balaklava Race 6 No. 4)
This seven-year-old Magnus gelding trained by Andrew Clarken at Strathalbyn has four wins and seven places from 34 starts. He finished 1.4 lengths 4th over 1000m at Morphettville Parks on 28 August, then gained the upper hand in the final 50m for a length win over 1050m at Balaklava on 15 September. He has raced at Balaklava twice before for a place and a win. Should be hard to beat.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Happy Atom (Balaklava Race 3 No. 7):
This six-year-old Atomic mare trained by Phillipe Huserot at Strathalbyn has two wins and 11 places from 39 starts. She loomed up strongly at the top of the straight but was outgunned in the last 50m for 2.4 lengths 3rd over 1800m at Murray Bridge on 5 September then ran on strongly and dived late for 0.4 length 2nd, 5.6 lengths ahead of the 3rd horse over 1900m at Oakbank on 12 September. Has placed at 3 of 4 previous outings to the track and looks a nice each-way chance again.

Tough Lassie (Balaklava Race 7 No. 3):
This four-year-old All Too Hard mare trained by Chris Bieg is the early favourite in this Fillies and Mares 0-58 handicap over 1200m. At the end of last campaign she finished last of 11 over 1300m at Penola on 30 May and was spelled for 15 weeks. When resuming she tried hard for 0.6 length 3rd over 1200m at Balaklava on 15 September. Goes up 3.5 kg and I’m prepared to risk her here.

Best Bet Deep Discretion (Northam Race 1 No. 9) She ran 3rd at Pinjarra last outing and is on the improve. Shoudn’t be a maiden much longer. Horse Racing Tips: TAS Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Horse Racing Tips: VIC Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The best bet is in the first and was explosive on debut. Expecting all to have their chance on this track that usually plays fair. Best Bet What A Cross (Sale Race 1 No. 10) Big finale on debut and looms at likeable odds here. Was smacked in betting then and almost pulled off the plunge when flying to the line. Looks a huge chance here. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce Parker
