Our Balaklava Racing Tips for Wednesdays meeting.

Turn Table (Balaklava Race 1 No. 4)
This four-year-old Rebel Raider gelding trained by Jake Stephens at Victor Harbour resumes here. He debuted with 0.4 length 3rd over 1516m at Gawler on 19 August on a heavy track, then over-raced early and worked home where the tempo didn’t suit for a length 4th over 1500m at Gawler on 2 September. He has been spelled for 34 weeks and is the top pick in this maiden plate.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Dawn Salute (Balaklava Race 7 No. 3):
This four-year-old Hussonet gelding has two wins and three places from 13 starts. He resumed from a 20 week spell for 5.5 lengths 4th over 1000m at Morphettville Parks on 19 February where he never looked likely, then he ran three wide with no cover before tiring in the final 200m to finish 8.1 lengths 13th over 1200m at Murray Bridge on 27 February. He has had an eight week let-up and with barrier 1 and Kayla Crowther loks a good each way chance over the 1050m distance.

Best Lay

Koruto (Balaklava Race 6 No. 2):
This three-year-old Written Tycoon gelding is the early favourite in this 0-58 handicap over 1300m. He ran 3rd three times in a row before a 1.1 length win in a maiden plate over 1100m at Strathalbyn on 24 March, then made ground late for 1.8 lengths 5th over 1100m at Strathalbyn on 18 April. Others look better placed and he offers no value.

Horse Racing Tips: TAS Wednesday 24th April 2024

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight.
