Our Balaklava Racing Tips for Wednesdays meeting.

Kalamon (Balaklava Race 7 No. 2)
This four-year-old Husson gelding has had 22 starts for four wins and four places and three of those wins were at this track and distance. He jumped awkwardly and drifted back before finishing 2.8 lengths 5th over 1540m at Morphettville on 20 February, then hit the lead at the 200m and kept going strongly for a 1.5 length win over 1600m at Balaklava on 28 February. This looks no stronger than last start and he can win again.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Trivago Girl (Balaklava Race 5 No. 6):
This four-year-old Stryker mare has two wins and one place from 12 starts. She worked home solidly for 1.2 lengths 2nd over 1360m at Kingscote on 18 February, then took over at the 100m and held off a late challenge for a 0.7 length win over 1360m at Kingscote on 20 February. She is going well at the moment and is worth an each-way wager.

Our Benevento (Balaklava Race 6 No. 4):
This six-year-old Helmet mare is the early favourite in this BM 54 handicap over 1200m. She was well-supported in the betting when 4.5 lengths 5th over 1200m at Naracoorte on 27 December, then she was sent out as favourite and led on the rails before being overpowered in the final 100m and finishing 1.7 lengths 4th over 1050m at Balaklava on 28 February. She hasn’t won over this distance in 15 attempts and I don’t expect that to change here.

Horse Racing Tips: TAS Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Horse Racing Tips: VIC Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The best bet is in the first and was explosive on debut. Expecting all to have their chance on this track that usually plays fair. Best Bet What A Cross (Sale Race 1 No. 10) Big finale on debut and looms at likeable odds here. Was smacked in betting then and almost pulled off the plunge when flying to the line. Looks a huge chance here. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce Parker
