Our Eagle Farm Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

Palazzo Spirit (Eagle Farm Race 3 No. 1)
It’s been one race for one win for this two-year-old Spirit of Boom colt trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted. He was bumped at the start before going forward then led to the home turn where he drew clear in the straight and hung out in the final 100m but held on for a 0.2 length win with a big gap to 3rd over 1000m at Eagle Farm on 9 October. He won a recent trial at Doomben and is the one to beat.

Jakama (Eagle Farm Race 9 No. 6):
This five-year-old Collate gelding trained by John Dann has five wins and five places from 21 starts. He fought on well for 0.4 length 3rd over 1400m at Eagle Farm on 6 November, then ran on and despite hanging in won by 0.3 length on a heavy track over 1350m at Ipswich on 27 November. Likely to race on the speed and looks a good each-way bet.

Expat (Eagle Farm Race 6 No. 3):
This four-year-old Makfi mare trained by Mark Newnham is the early favourite in this Listed Just Now Quality Handicap for fillies and mares over 1300m. She won two in a row before being disqualified at Randwick on 17 July due to a positive swab. When resuming from a 19 week spell she led all the way for a 1.5 length win over 1300m on heavy going at Rosehill on 27 November. She has six wins and a place from 10 starts but has failed at both of her second-up starts, so I’m prepared to risk her here.

Horse Racing Tips: TAS Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Key Comments The best bet is in the first and was explosive on debut. Expecting all to have their chance on this track that usually plays fair. Best Bet What A Cross (Sale Race 1 No. 10) Big finale on debut and looms at likeable odds here. Was smacked in betting then and almost pulled off the plunge when flying to the line. Looks a huge chance here. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce Parker

Key Comments The rail is true. The track is in the soft range. This track usually favours those on speed. Best Bet Final Atom (Horsham Race 7 No. 1) Should land up on speed and prove hard to catch.
