Best Bet |Toronado Phantom (Happy Valley Race 7 No.4)

When I first looked at this race, I went away from him thinking there might be something else, but the more I watched his last start the more I think he is a big winning chance today. It was his first step up to Class 3 since his runs over the mile (which were pretty good when you see who he took on). Since coming back to 1200m, he has won in Class 4 carrying 60.5kg and he narrowly missed last start finishing 0.9 length back in fifth. Fourth placing has since come out and won a Class 3 at Sha Tin in easy fashion. He will get back from the draw, so hopefully, Purton has watched the film of his past starts and gives him every chance in the straight.

I truly thought this bloke was due and going to get his win last start, though he was beaten on the line by one bursting through the middle in V Chevaliers. Start before that he come from way back to run a credible fourth, but the key last start was a much better draw, and he gets that here coming out of barrier 3. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of speed engaged, so I am hoping Hamelin can get him into a nice position in the run before unleashing him late. I will also have one eye on Chiu Chow Brother (No.10) in this race, think he can run a nice race and could be worth a nice place bet.

Pretty Queen Prawn (Happy Valley Race 4 No.6)

There are going to be a lot of tips towards Lightning Storm with not only Purton on but the run he had first-up, but I have gone for another who traveled wide without cover last start and managed to kick and fight out the finish over this track and distance last start. I loved his fight, and he gets a slightly better draw this time out and he will likely get a lovely trail behind Lightning Storm. Our bloke will be strong late with Lightning Storm is dependent on what pace he sets. He is worth the gamble.

Nervous Witness (Happy Valley Race 8 No.12) & Carroll Street (Happy Valley Race 8 No.9)

Gone a duel bet here to cover two scenarios. Nervous Witness is a boom horse who has trialed up like a bomb, but there is a lot of pace in this race with We The South likely to kick up from the inside. I think Nervous Witness is a huge chance to embarrass them here, but how much will he be able to handle on his return? He is no doubt the best horse in this race and won’t be going around without some of my cash. Carroll Street is one who won’t be in the speed battle, has a fantastic record, and will be strong at the end of this 1000m. It all comes down to how far Vincent Ho puts him off the lead as to whether be is a live chance 400m out or not.

Bet: 2u @ $2.35 & 0.5u @ $7.00

Maldives (Happy Valley Race 9 No.3)

Another horse who should have won last start if he didn’t have to bullock his way out in the straight. He is chomping at the bit for a win this preparation and has gone close on three occasions. He is drawn perfectly, Purton retains, drops 0.5kg from his last run and should be fighting out the finish once again.

Bet: 1u @ $4.20
