Greater Western Sydney Giants v St Kilda Saints

Friday 22/4/22 @ Canberra

Last 5 Encounters |  St Kilda 2  |  GWS 2  | Draw 1

Verdict

It’s been one way traffic in early betting for St Kilda.  The Saints were outsiders as late as Monday but are now clear favourites at around the $1.70 mark with most of the bookies.

The Saints have been super impressive since their Round 1 defeat against Collingwood.  They have won four on the bounce and the sides they have beaten have all gone onto win the following week which suggests that form can be trusted.

I am expecting the GWS to come out firing here after slumping to 1&4 following their loss to Melbourne at the MCG.  The Giants are not lacking in talent and get their inspirational leader Toby Green as well as first ruck Brayden Preuss back.  Both are big ins.

On recent form St Kilda should get this done but for the reasons outlined above it’s a no bet game for me at the current odds.

Suggested bet – No Bet

Western Bulldogs v Adelaide Crows

Saturday 23/4/22 @ Docklands

Last 5 Encounters |  Western Bulldogs 3  |  Adelaide 2

Verdict

The Crows continue to exceed expectations in 2022 and collected four points against Richmond at home last week.  They were very competitive against the Bombers in Melbourne the week prior too.

The Western Bulldogs seemingly got their season back on with a 68 point win over North Melbourne on Good Friday and this is one they would have had pencilled in at the start of the season.

Adelaide’s forward line poses some threat too the Doggies undersized backline but even so it’s hard to see anything other than a Bulldogs win on Saturday afternoon.

Suggested bet – Western Bulldogs Win (Multis)

Melbourne Demons  v Richmond Tigers

Sunday 24/4/22 @ MCG

Last 5 Encounters |  Melbourne 1  |  Richmond 4

Verdict

Melbourne have covered four of five lines this season and enter the Anzac Eve clash off the back of their best win of the season – a 67 point drumming of GWS.

Richmond are still with out a host of big names and were poor against Adelaide last week in a game they really needed to win to get their season back on track.

Despite a good recent record against Melbourne I found it impossible to make a case for Richmond.  The Demons have lead at quarter time in every game this year.  Expecting them to get off to a fast start again here and keep a margin on Richmond for the remainder of the game.

Suggested bet – Melbourne Win (Multis)

Hawthorn Hawkes v Sydney Swans

Monday 25/4/22 @ Launceston

Last 5 Encounters |  Hawthorn 2  | Sydney 3

Verdict

This is a home game in Tasmania for Hawthorn.  After a pummelling from the Saints the week before the Hawkes bounced back in spectacular fashion to upset Geelong on Easter Monday.

Meanwhile Sydney continued their good start to the season with a 63 point win over West Coast in Perth.

It’s going to be hard for the Hawks to repeat the level of pressure they applied to Geelong two weeks in a row and they have serious issues in the ruck with their only fit ruckman not having played for a month.  Swans in my opinion are a far superior team and look a good play here at the line.  My best bet of the weekend in the footy.

Suggested bet –  1.5 Units Sydney Line (-9.5) @ $1.90 (Sportsbet)

Essendon Bombers v Collingwood Magpies

Monday 25/4/22 @ MCG

Last 5 Encounters |  Essendon 3  |  Collingwood 2

Verdict

Regardless of the teams position on the ladder the Anzac Day clash between Essendon and Collingwood is always a big one.

There is no doubt the Magpies bring in the more solid form lines having pushed Brisbane and Geelong over the last three weeks.

Essendon have won just one of five to start the season and like GWS have had the blow torch applied to them by the media this week.  As a result I think we see a response but I’m not sure it’s going to be enough for them to get the four points.

Happy to play Collingwood in multis.
