Brisbane Lions v Melbourne Demons

Friday 19/8/22 @ The Gabba

Last 5 Encounters |  Brisbane 2  |  Melbourne 3

We have been treated to several block busters on Friday night footy this year but this one might just trump them all.  The winner guarantees themselves a top four spot and the all important second chance, while the loser more than likely misses the top four and will need to win four finals in a row to win the flag.

Melbourne destroyed Brisbane when these two sides met at the MCG earlier in the year, however Brisbane are a different beast up at the Gabba.  They have won 18 of their last 20 at home with one of those losses coming when they were heavily affected by covid protocols.  Melbourne on the other hand are an exceptionally good travelling side and have won all five interstate matches this year.

St Kilda youngster Marcus Windhager did a good job negating Lachie Neale’s impact last week and I suspect Melbourne bring James Harmes back into their side to tag Neale this week.  If he can do a similar job to what he did in round 15 then that will go a long way towards last years premiers getting over the line and securing a top 4 spot.

Suggested Bet – 1.25 Units Melbourne @ $2 (Sportsbet)

Port Adelaide Power v Adelaide Crows

Saturday 20/8/22 @ Adelaide Oval

Last 5 Encounters |  Port Adelaide 4  |  Adelaide 1

A dead rubber in terms of making finals but there is always plenty of pride on the line in a showdown and both of these teams will be keen to play well and take some momentum into 2023.

Despite losing their previous four matches, Port Adelaide made light work of the Bombers last week in Melbourne.  Adelaide have won their last three and won in a thriller when these sides met earlier in the year.

While Port were impressive last week, it was a bruise free game under the roof at Marvel.  This will be a lot more hotly contested and I can see the Crows putting up another good fight here.  They appeal with the start.

Suggested Bet – 1.5 Units Adelaide Line (+20.5) @ $1.90 (Sportsbet)

Carlton Blues v Collingwood Magpies

Sunday 21/8/22 @ MCG

Last 5 Encounters |  Carlton 1  |  Collingwood 4

Assuming the Western Bulldogs take care of the Hawks in Tasmania this becomes one of the biggest home and away games ever between these two big Melbourne clubs and we can bank on there being 80,000 plus at the G on Sunday afternoon to watch it.

Carlton will likely need to win to make the top 8 (assuming the Dogs win).  Collingwood need to win to make the top 4.

Think the betting is about right at pick them.  We still have our pending bet from last week on the Western Bulldogs to make the top 8 (1.25 Units Western Bulldogs To Make The Top 8 @ $3.30) so leaving this game and cheering hard for the Magpies!

Weekly Multi – 1.5 Units @ $2.97 (Sportsbet)

  • Jack Viney To Have 25 or more disposals (Melbourne v Brisbane Game)
  • Fremantle (Win)
  • Gold Coast (Win)

Jack Viney – continues to get his 25 disposals each week.  Loves big games and I expect him to be securing 25 touches in Brisbane on Friday night.

Fremantle – have been the better side all year and if they win here have a chance to make the top 4.  GWS don’t have much to play for.

Gold Coast – Have had a very poor second half of the year and will be determined to bank four points against a bottom 2 side.  Lose and the heat comes back on Stuart Dew.
