Our Gawler Racing Tips for Wednesday’s meeting.

Betta Eddie (Gawler Race 7 No. 1)
This four-year-old Barbados gelding trained by Darren Magro has placed at his last three starts and is ready for a win. He was bumped several times in the final 200m and finished 0.9 length 2nd over 1200m at Gawler on heavy going on 22 June, then had a tough run before finishing 2 lengths 3rd over 1200m at Balaklava on 29 June. Gets a 2kg claim and looks ready to win.

King Of Avalon (Gawler Race 3 No. 3):
This four-year-old Mongolian Khan gelding trained by John Macmillan at Goolwa is coming off a win to break his maiden at Gawler on a heavy track. He made some ground from well back in the field for 2.5 lengths 4th over 1600m at Balaklava on 8 June, then got to 2nd at the 800m and went stride for stride getting the bob in on the line for a 0.1 length win over 2121m in heavy going at Gawler on 22 June. Goes well in the wet and hasn’t finished worse than 4th in his last six starts. Looks a solid each-way bet.

Halifax Road (Gawler Race 4 No. 6):
This three-year-old Fighting Sun gelding trained by Peter Hardacre is the early favourite in this BM 58 Handicap over 1700m. He resumed from a spell for 2.1 lengths 8th over 1400m at Murray Bridge on 13 June, then worked home solidly to grab 2nd over 1500m at Gawler on 9 July. He was 1.8 lengths behind the winner and other runners offer better value.

Horse Racing Tips: VIC Sunday 5th May 2024

Key Comments The best bet is in the first and was explosive on debut. Expecting all to have their chance on this track that usually plays fair. Best Bet What A Cross (Sale Race 1 No. 10) Big finale on debut and looms at likeable odds here. Was smacked in betting then and almost pulled off the plunge when flying to the line. Looks a huge chance here. Check odds on SmartB Analyst: Bryce Parker
