Melbourne v Geelong Cats

Friday 10/9/21

A big test for Melbourne as they face the finals-hardened Cats, but I think they’re up to winning this clash and securing a grand final spot. They’ll have to overcome a Geelong side which has proven to excel at this ground of Optus Stadium. In two matches at the venue this year, they’ve wiped Fremantle off the park and then largely cruised past the Giants. I like that the Demons will be more match-hardened after having to work a little harder to get past the Lions, and history shows teams can catapult off tougher clashes in the lead-up to a big finals clash. Admittedly, the Demons have had the week off which can also be a negative depending on their preparation. But they have has also won their past two clashes (both this year) against the Cats. If the Demons can handle the pressure and play anywhere near their best, they should have too much firepower across the ground.

Suggested bet: 2.5u Melbourne win at $1.50

Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs

Saturday 11/9/21

Port Adelaide go into clash well-rested but face a Dogs side with their mojo back. In recent weeks the Dogs have proven why they were viewed as genuine flag contenders mid-season. They snapped a three-game losing streak heading into finals, to smash the Dons and then last week showed grit to just sneak past the Lions. The Dogs have beaten Port at Adelaide Oval already this year, and I thought they did it quite comfortably. They lose key defender Alex Keath, which leaves a big hole down back, but if they can get their match-ups right, Stefan Martin will be an able inclusion.

Suggested bet: 3u Bulldogs win at $2.90
