Thoroughbred Club Stakes – 2020

The first of the group races on the card is the group three Thoroughbred Club Stakes.  A field of eight runners have accepted and there are no early scratching’s.  Four last start winners are in the race and Swats That is the early favourite.  Swat’s That sat three wide in the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley but was still much to good for her rivals running away to a two length victory.  Muntaseera resumed with a come from behind victory and Jye McNeil will ride her this time round as John Allan elects to stay aboard the favourite.  Highly Discreet found herself a long way back at Moonee Valley but ran home strongly into second place.

Bella Nipotina was successful first up on this track before finding Group one company too tough last time out.  She is more suited against her own age here.  Letzbeglam has had a month between runs but wasn’t far away from Swat’s That at Flemington.  The three remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

1. Letzbeglam

Letzbeglam begun her preparation with a solid fourth in the Cap D’Antibes.  She has had a month between runs and goes into this race second up.  Last preparation she won the Blue Diamond prelude and finished just 2.55 L from the winner in the Group 1 Blue Diamond.

2. Bella Nipotina

Bella Nipotina has had two starts this preparation for a first and last.  Her win first up at Caulfield was very good before tackling the Group one Moir Stakes, where she had excuses.  Back to her own age and group three company gives her a much better chance to run well.

3. Swats That

Many were spruiking Swats That as a horse to follow this preparation after she had been jumping out well prior to her first up run.  She put the writing on the wall with an excellent second in the Cap D’Antibes before heading to Moonee Valley, sitting three wide and bolting in.  She is a good horse and the one to beat again.

4. Muntaseera

Muntaseera was well fancied first up and was able to get the job done for John Allan.  Jye McNeil will take the reigns this time round.  She looks to get a good run from barrier 4 and is one of the main chances in the race.

5. Tarcoola Diva

Tarcoola Diva struck a bottomless track at Moonee Valley first up and can be excused for a poor performance.  Has since won a Geelong Maiden in good style.  This is tougher.

6. Highly Discreet

She comes through the Champagne Stakes Form Line at Moonee Valley, the race that Swats That won.  I thought her run was excellent in that signifying she is in for a really good preparation.  Not sure if she can turn the tables on Swat’s That but she can definitely feature in the minor money.

7. Capriccio

A good winner of a maiden race at Ballarat  on resumption.  This is a big step up and she will likely find it too hard.

8. Cave Hill

Cave Hill missed the start horribly at Kyneton but charged home for a good second.  This is probably too hard but she is from a leading stable so shouldn’t be ruled out.
