Quezette Stakes – 2020

There is a field of 14 runners for the $160,000 Quezette Stakes. Seven of them are first-up from a spell, three are second-up while the remaining four have had at least two runs this campaign.The short-priced favourite is Parlophone who has won both her starts since resuming from a spell. Second favourite is Fresh who resumes after 27 weeks and won on debut before 2nd in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview for fillies. Third favourite is Agreeable who has raced only once, for a 2 length win at Geelong.

Bella Nipotina is the only horse in the field who is still a maiden but she has been racing at Group level and has not finished further back than 4th in seven races.  River Night resumes after 17 weeks and ran some good races last campaign. Icantoo won her only start at Warrnambool on a soft track. Euphoric Summer rises 4kg from her last start 6th in the Listed Lightning Stakes. Aryaaf  is the topweight and resumes after a 25 week spell She won the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes at her first start. Seeress has ran two decent raced this campaign. All other runners are currently 25 to 1 or longer.

1. Aryaaf

She won the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes on debut, then ran 2nd in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes then finished 6 lengths 11th in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Resuming here after 25 weeks she will come to hand quickly and is one of the main chances in the race.

2. River Knight

In March she won the Listed Redoubte’s Choice Stakes, then disappointed as favourite at her next two starts. She has trialled up the straight and should be ready to go.

3. Parlophone

This nicely-bred filly has charged home to win at her two starts since resuming, over 1000m at Sandown Hillside then 1050m at Morphettville where she demolished a handy field to win the Listed Lightning Stakes by 3 lengths. The extra 50m should help her and I think she can win again.

4. Supreme Idea

She won 2 of 4 races in her first campaign, then resumed after 20 weeks for 7th in the Lightning Stakes in Adelaide. Drawn out wide she needs to improve on her last start.

5. Bella Nipotina

The only maiden in the field, she has run some excellent races including 2nd in the Inglis Millenium on a heavy track. She returns from a 19 week spell and should be in the finish again.

6. Euphoric Summer

She finished 4.7 lengths 6th in the Lightning Stakes at Morphettville and rises 4kg on that run, so is unlikely to be in the first couple home here.

7. Fresh

This Fastnet Rock filly resumes after 27 weeks and won by 3 lengths at Geelong on debut before 2nd in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview for fillies. Must be considered.

8. Miss Bosetti

She had a win over 1000m at Mornington back in June, and at her latest start she wasn’t far away when 3rd over 1000m at Moonee Valley 2 weeks ago. Rough chance.

9. Aquagirl

When resuming after 20 weeks she finished 2.8 lengths 4th over 1000m at Sandown Hillside. Others have better claims.

10. Drone Strike

She resumes after 25 weeks and need need a run or two to reach her best.

11. Seeress

After a win over 1000m at Ballarat Synthetic she was held up and drove hard beween runners for 0.5 lengths 5th over 1000m at Moonee Valley in a bunched finish. Not the worst.

12. Agreeable

At her only start she won by 2 lengths over 1140m at Geelong on 29 May. One for the multiples.

13. Icantoo

Another runner with one start for one win. She won by 0.3 lengths over 1100m at Warrnambool on 6 May. This is much tougher.

14. Zooming Zebra

She surprised punters when she won at maiden plate over 1100m at Echuca at odds of 30 to 1. This is too hard.
