2021 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Race Details

Race 8 at Randwick on Saturday 17th April 2021.

The ATC Queen Elizabeth Stakes is a 2000 metre weight-for-age race run by the Australian Turf Club. The race is held in April or early May each year at Randwick during the Autumn Racing Carnival. Until the introduction of The Everest in 2017 the prizemoney of $4 million made it Sydney’s richest race.

 Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2021 Preview

Track: Good Weather: Fine

Eight have accepted for one of the most anticipated races of the Sydney autumn  – the $4,000,000 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.  Samadoubt is an early scratching.  There are two key form lines to consider here with three of them backing up from a run in last weeks Doncaster Mile and three having had their last start in the Ranvet Stakes on April 3.  Verry Elleegant & Addeybb head the betting.  They have eleven Group 1 wins between them and have clashed three times prior to this.  Addeybb leads the dual 2-1 but it was Verry Elleegant who was able to get the upper hand late in the Ranvet Stakes three weeks ago and may have an edge over the Brit if the rain stays away.

On the next line of betting is Sir Dragonet.  He won last years Cox Plate and was dominant winning the Tancred Stakes at his last start.  Six year-old Mugatoo won the All Star Mile at Moonee Valley on March 13 and finished fourth in the Doncaster Mile last week while Mo’unga is the loan three year-old in the race.  The remaining runners are longer than $20-1.

Queen Elizabeth Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Addeybb

Terrific horse trained by William Haggis in the UK.  He is having his second stint in Australia and finished a length behind Verry Ellegant in the Ranvet on March 27.  Last Autumn he won the Ranvet and then won this race.  He will be fitter for the first up run and looks to be going well but is yet to fully prove himself on a good track.  Blinkers first time is interesting!

2. Sir Dragonet

Classy entire who won last years Cox Plate and then ran a great race in the Melbourne Cup.  He has improved with every run this preparation and fought on okay in the Ranvet before proving a good track is no issue with a dominant win in the Tancred.  Coming back in trip from 2400m to 2000m is my query.

3. Mugatoo

Backs up after finishing fourth in last weeks Doncaster Mile.  Prior he won the All Star Mile!  He is a proven Group 1 performer and looks ready for 2000m now!

4. Think It Over

Five-year-old gelding trained by Kerry Parker at Kembla Grange.  He rarely runs a bad race and loves racing at Randwick.  He stormed home to win the George Ryder – his first Group 1 victory.  Flying!

5. Samadoubt – SCRATCHED

6. Dalasan

Surprised a few with a third placed finish in last weeks Doncaster Mile but weight for age doesn’t suit.

7. Verry Elleegant

Hard to argue that this Chris Waller trained mare is anything other than Australia’s best race horse.  She is a model of consistency and an eight time Group 1 winner.  She looks to be going as well as ever coming off back to back Group 1 wins and is more proven on a good surface than her main rival Addeybb.  A deserved favourite and the one to beat.

8. Mo’unga

One of our best three-year-old’s.  He ran second in the Randwick Guineas, then won the Rosehill Guineas.  Last week he just got too far back in the Doncaster but still ran home okay.  This is his toughest test yet.
