Lord Mayor’s Cup – 2024

Track: Heavy 8 Weather: Showers

The race was due to place last week but was postponed due to the wet. Sir Lucan comes up favourite. Should be able to land up on the speed and has the ability to cross from the wide draw. Williamsburg has been racing well this prep. Tough draw but has the ability to give this a shake. Sibaaq also draws poorly but will be hitting the line hard while Eliyass maps for the run of the race from barrier 3 and has Tim Clark doing the steering.

1. Sky Lab (8)

Capable of taking this out and has been subject to good early support. Won’t be easy with the weight but last start was an excellent effort in the Scone Cup and looks suited here.

2. Lion’s Roar (5)

Needs to improve to be taking this out but has the gun draw and Gibbons doing the riding. Capable but has been below par on form.

3. Waterford (14)  – scratched

4. Hosier (7)

Should appreciate the give in the ground and will improve off the back of a moderate run in the Scone Cup last start.

5. Sibaaq (15)

Will be hitting the line hard from the wide draw. Won’t be easy from out there but key scratchings boost it’s chances.

6. Sir Lucan (16)

Can lob up on speed from the wide draw. Capable runner who has plenty of early pace. Has King doing the steering and can settle in the first few and prove dangerous to beat.

7. Star Of India (4)

Resumes off a lengthy spell and is a market watch coming into this race. Ideal draw, maps well and does have strong claims in this winnable race. Keep an eye on fluctuation late.

8. Mount Popa (12)

Can’t have.

9. Baby Rider (13)  – scratched

10. Eliyass (3)

French import who has Tim Clark doing the riding. Should secure a gun run and looks suited to this field Keep an eye on the market.

11. Torrens (11)

Can’t have.

12. Williamsburg (10)

Capable runner but can be hard to catch. Drawn awkwardly but has the pace to roll forward. Did all but win last start when nailed on the line and doesn’t have to improve much to be taking this out.

13. Hopeful (1)

Can’t have.

14. Foniska (2)

Prefer others.

15. Political Debate (9)  – scratched

16. Vincenzo (6)

This looks too tough.
