George Moore Stakes 2024 Preview

Track: Soft 6 Weather: Showers

There are 9 runners for the 2024 Ladbrokes George Moore Stakes and they are all geldings. There is one four-year-old, two five-year-olds, two six-year-olds, three seven-year-olds and an eight-year-old. Seven are resuming. Tony Gollan has 3 runners and Robert Heathcote has 2.

The early favourite is Front Page who was a close runner-up in the Listed Always Welcome Stakes over 1200m at Flemington last start and both runs this preparation have been excellent. Second favourite is Hidden Wealth who hasn’t started since winning the Listed Toowoomba Weetwood over 1200m. Third favourite is Rothfire who ran 2nd in the race last year and resumes after 46 weeks after two good trials. Cifrado resumed for 2nd at Sunshine Coast while Zarastro returns from a 17 week spell. All other runners are currently $15 or longer.

Finished 2nd in the race last year less than half a length behind Zoustyle. Resumes after 46 weeks after two good trials and has fantastic first-up statistics. One of the key chances.

2. Front Page (4)

He was a close runner-up in the Listed Always Welcome Stakes over 1200m at Flemington last start carrying a big weight and both runs this preparation have been excellent.

3. Zarastro (9)

Returns from a 17 week spell and won a recent trial. This is his best distance and he should run well.

4. Prince Of Boom (3)

Resumes from a 22 week spell and won a recent trial. Quality gelding who can be in the finish.

5. Namazu (2)

Has never won over less than 1300m. Unlikely.

6. Cifrado (6)

Resumed for 2nd over 1000m at Sunshine Coast where he charged home late. Chance.

7. Hidden Wealth (8)

Hasn’t started since winning the Listed Toowoomba Weetwood over 1200m in September. Having his first Group race and looks good enough to at least place.
