Beaufine Stakes 2022 Preview

Track: Good – Soft Weather: Showers

Twelve runners have accepted for the $125,000 Listed Beaufine Stakes and there have been no early scratchings. The Luke Fernie stable and Simon A Miller stable have entered two runners for the event, and every other trainer has just one entry each.

Wilchino has opened up the dominant $2.30 favourite, who is coming back after 224 days off. She started the second favourite in the Winterbottom Stakes only to be slow out and have an elevated heart rate. Priors to that she was on a six-race winning streak. How’s The Serenity is on the second line of betting and she is also first-up after 77 days. She finished last preparation with a pair of wins in benchmark 66 and benchmark 72 company respectively and has trialled just once in the lead-up for this one.

Iseered Iseered is on the third line of betting and is first-up after 147 days. He suffered from heat stress in the Cyril Flower Stakes to end his preparation following promising runs in the Miss Andretti Stakes and the Scenic Blast Stakes.

Beaufine Stakes Runner by Runner

1. Money Matters (7)

First-up after 224 days. His record first-up is fair but he has to lug 61kg. Happy to watch him go around.

2. Nerodio (11)

Has been ordinary over his last two in Group 3 company, so the step back in grade is positive, as is the step back to 1000m where he has won 5/6 with one second. Drawn wide, happy to look outside of him.

3. Hot Zed (4)

First-up after 126 days. Was consistent in Listed grade last preparation though 1000m here looks a touch sharp. Should be hitting the line well.

4. Bumper Blast (5)

First-up after 378 days. First start for Grant and Alana Williams from the Robert Hickmott stable in Victoria. Happy to watch.

5. Heavenly Waters (9)

Second-up following a sub-standard run last start. Can’t have.

6. How’s The Serenity (3)

First-up after 77 days. Won 3/5 last preparation in much weaker races. One nice trial in the lead-up for this one. Could be a sneaky chance.

7. Iseered Iseered (1)

First-up after 147 days. Drawn ideally and should get a sweet run throughout and looks the danger to the favourite.

8. Jericho Missile (12)

Can’t have on form.

9. Mervyn (2)

Likely to set the pace from barrier 2, form has been hit and miss this preparation but his map always puts him thereabouts. Not for me.

10. Platinum Bullet (6)

First-up after 153 days. This looks too hard.

11. Resortman (10)

First-up after 126 days. Prefer others.

12. Wilchino (8)

First-up after 224 days. Absolute flyer who has won 8/12 starts with 7 of those wins being over the 1000m and he is 3/3 at Belmont. No public trials but I would assume he is ready as he did the same last preparation and saluted by 3.9 lengths.
