2024 Asian Beau Stakes Details

Race 8 at Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 2nd November 2024.

The Asian Beau Stakes is a Group 3 race held at Ascot over 1400 metres. It is for three-year-olds and upwards and is run under handicap conditions. The total prize money this year is $200,000.

Track: Soft 5 Weather: Showers

There are 15 runners for the 2024 Hosemasters Asian Beau Stakes with 9 gelding and 6 mares. There are four 4YOs, six 5YOs, two 6YOs, one 7YO and two 8YOs. Five runners had their last start in the Group 3 Eurythmic Stakes over 1400m at Ascot 2 weeks ago (won by Comfort Me) and three in a BM78+ over 1400m at Ascot on 12th October (won by Diamond Scene). Four runners are resuming. Three runners are sired by Universal Ruler and two by Playing God. Trainer Michael Grantham has 2 runners.

The early favourite is smart mare Super Smink who flew home for 2nd in the Eurythmic from a wide barrier and was unlucky not to win. Second favourite is Yonga Lass who resumes after 16 weeks and has won 7 of 15 at this track. She’s won both lead-up trials and has barrier 1 and William Pike. Third favourite is Zipaway who hasn’t started since running 3rd in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2040m at Moonee Valley 32 weeks ago, and generally goes well first-up. Diamond Scene resumed with a win at this track and trip on 12th October, while Brave Spirit has placed at both starts since resuming. The other runners are currently $15 or longer.

2024 Asian Beau Stakes Runner by Runner

​Won the Black Heart Bart Stakes by 0.5 length over 1200m at Belmont on 28th September then finished 14th in the Eurythmic. Prefer over 1200m.​

2. Super Smink (6)

Flew home for 2nd in the Eurythmic from a wide barrier and was unlucky not to win. Top chance.

3. Zipaway (7)

One of two runners sired by Playing God (the other is Mojo Rhythm). Hasn’t started since running 3rd in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2040m at Moonee Valley 32 weeks ago, and generally goes well first-up.​

Resumes from a 22 week spell and has won 3 of 9 first-up starts. Having his first start since changing trainer from G & A Williams to Donna Riordan. Not the worst.

This 8YO ran 9th in the Black Heart Bart first-up then finished last of 16 in the Eurythmic. Looks tested.​

6. Admiration Express (11)

His last 2 races were at Kalgoorlie where he won the Coolgardie Cup over 1760m then ran 3rd in the Listed Boulder Cup over 2116m. Dropping in distance and could surprise.

One of 3 runners sired by Universal Ruler (the others are Rusty Dreams and Yonga Lass). Finished 9th in the Eurythmic and has drawn very wide. Looking elsewhere.

Has placed at both starts since resuming. Very consistent runner who has only missed the trifecta twice in 13 starts. Don’t dismiss.

One of 2 runners for Michael Grantham (the other is Luvnwar). Resumed with a win at this track and trip on 12th October and has won 5 of 10 starts here. Should go well again.

Ran on strongly for 6th in the Eurythmic and goes well at this track. Drawn the outside barrier which is no help.

Hasn’t started since running 2nd in the Listed Belmont Oaks over 2000m on 6th July. A versatile mare who is a place chance.

Resumed for 10th behind Diamond Scene but was blocked the entire straight. Prefer to watch.

Finished 7th over 1000m when resuming. Has good form on soft going.

Returned from a 17 week spell for 3rd over 1400m behind Diamond Scene. Place chance.

Resumes after 16 weeks and has won 7 of 15 at this track. She’s won both lead-up trials and has barrier 1 and William Pike. Ticks all the boxes.
