Our Moonee Valley Horse Racing Tips for Saturday’s meeting

Race 5 is the Listed McKenzie Stakes and race 8 is the Listed Carlyon Stakes.

Ocean’s Thirteen (Moonee Valley Race 3 No. 1)

This daughter of Ocean Park is the clear class runner in the field.  She won well at Ballarat 3 starts ago and then went to Caulfield and fought on really well to be beaten less than 2 lengths in the Group 3 Lady Vase.  We have since seen a number of horses from that race come out and either win or run well in Group races.  At her latest run she lead on the fence on a day where this was not advantageous but she was game in defeat running third to the impressive Tralee Rose who has since won again.  Ocean’s Thirteen does have to carry top weight but she will get some weight relief with Will Price’s claim. Will has been riding well and I think he can find the lead from barrier 1, kick clear and win.

Each Way

Mariamia (Moonee Valley Race 6 No. 3):

There is a lot of speed on paper in race 6 which may present an opportunity for a back marker to upset the more fancied on pace runners.  Mariamia was able to do exactly that first up here unleashing a huge finish from the back to score comfortably on a night that favoured leaders.  She then ran okay at Geelong crossing the line with Kalkarni Royale who is one of the favourites in this race.  Back to Moonee Valley over the 1000m distance should suit.

Best Lay

Seb Song (Moonee Valley Race 1 No. 5):

Seb Song was a sound run on debut behind the smart Shelby Cobra and then looked to have a Donald maiden shot to pieces before appearing to resist going past Kohli.  He is a full brother to Sebsilk who has shown similar tendencies in not wanting to go past other horses.  Sebsilk has won just one race from thirteen starts despite appearing to have good talent!  Barrier 2 is also has the potential to provide some traffic issues in run.  Happy to risk at current odds given these queries.

As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight. Best Bet Es And Es (Devonport Race 5 No. 1) He ran on
