Crimson Ace (Flemington Race 5 No. 9):
With 2 wins and 2 places from 5 starts this campaign, this mare is very consistent. After wins at Cranbourne and Mornington she settled well back then knuckled at the 800m and only battled to finish 8.4 lengths 10th over 2400m on heavy going at Sandown Hillside on 24 June. Next start she was held up from the turn to the 200m and charged late to just miss for 0.1 length 2nd over 2400m on a heavy track at Sandown Lakeside on 8 July. She is a solid each-way bet.

Laburnum (Flemington Race 4 No. 1):
This Denman mare is the early favourite in this fillies and mares BM90 handicap, but she rarely wins. She resumed for 4.8 lengths 8th over 1100m at Rosehill on 13 June where she had trouble getting a clear run, then she raced tight from the 300-150m and drove through late for 0.2 length, 0.75 length 3rd over 1200m at Caulfield on 27 June. This is her best distance, but this is a very open race and she doesn’t look like value.
