Mon Cheval (Devonport Race 4 No. 4)
MON CHEVAL debuts for the Gaffney team after coming over from Danny O’Brien’s stable. He’s been thereabouts in some decent maidens, and always firm in betting, but what I like the most is his trial at Devonport. Close to the best work of the morning when cuddled from start to finish, picking up ground late in the piece with ease. The only danger in the race for mine is TENNESSEE BEACH, who has opened favourite. She’s been well supported in her career to date and hasn’t had a lot of luck in running. She’s opened far too short for mine, and I think MON CHEVAL sits on her back with Siggy Carr going straight on and will be too strong late.

Coeur De Lyon (Devonport Race 5 No. 1):
COEUR DE LYON resumes here and I’m keen to be with him. Not often you get form lines around Miss Tuppence and Turk Warrior bob up in a Class 1, and $4 early looks a spoil. Drawn inside here I think EBB can find a nice spot in behind the speed and if she can find a nice cart into some clear air I think he’ll simply be too good. ROCK ‘EM BABY ran well last start, doing it tough and should be thereabouts. TWO DOLLAR TOM went absolutely awful last start after a nice resumption at Devonport. Back to the home track here, I’m willing to forgive his last run and think is a top place chance, hopefully leads here. ALPINE BLAST can be running into the money without surprising, likely wants further.

Artuso (Devonport Race 6 No. 2):
JULIUS looks to have found his legs again as soon as I jumped off last start. Darmanin sticks here, as do the gear changes and should lead and win. ARTUSO finally gets a decent jockey on and can be an improver back in grade. I hope they ride him positively and sit in behind JULIUS, looks a huge EW chance. REWARD ACHIEVER comes out of the same race as ARTUSO, she’s likely to land 3-fence or there abouts and if she gets out late can be running home into the money – draw a bit sticky for me. OUR SHINKANSEN exploded after a freshen up and can run well again here, personally not convinced she can go back to back.
