Best bet – Race 1 #9 Manhood

Backing maiden winners at their next start is usually a recipe for disaster, but there is so much to like about this Headwater colt. There are big wraps on the Michael Costa-trained 3yo and he lived up to them on debut at this track. Encouragingly, he did it on a Soft 7 surface, which is likely the rating he’ll run on again here. On that occasion he broke 34 seconds for the last 600m, and while this is tougher, I think he should take care of his rivals on his home track.

Next best – Race 3 #8 Hell I Am

Was sent out as favourite on debut in the 2YO Wyong Magic Millions race and was arguably should’ve won. He had absolutely no luck, finishing fifth beaten just over 1.5 lengths. Trainer John O’Shea has a big opinion of this colt and from the perfect draw he should be winning and then backing up into the big 2yo race next week as a live hope.

Best each-way – Race 9 #14 Glitter Strip

This 4yo mare is ready to win after two solid runs back this preparation. First-up she wasn’t far off stablemate Miami Fliess and then last start simply got too far back when beaten by tearaway winner Wonderful Riri. At her best, she’s right in this race and barrier 11 shouldn’t be a disadvantage on a soft track late in the day. She is ready to peak third-up and her only two wins have come of soft ground.
