Race 1 #2 Big Muskie

Keen on getting the cash early in the day here with this Tony Gollan-trained galloper. Gollan has declared this as his best of the day and he should just be winning. He won his maiden at Doomben two starts back before running into the smart Rhapsody Rose last start at this track. The step up to the mile looks ideal, and with the small field, he should be able to sit a bit closer in the run and kick for home.

Race 6 #1 Wapiti

In a small field, class should prevail with Wapiti winning this event. All he needs to do is handle the slight step back in distance (2000m to 1830m), but he’s had a freshen up since his Toowoomba Cup run which should keep some sprint in his legs. His form at this track appears a little patchy on paper, but some of those runs have been in tougher races and he’s been far from disgraced.

Race 10 #7 Vistabelle

On a day when it’s tough to find value among small fields, I thought this former southerner could run well at an each-way price. She’s drawn a slightly wide gate but that’s no problem as she gets back in her races anyway, probably in the last four or five. Her three runs in Queensland have been full of merit and she’s got a great SP profile, starting around $4 or less at each of those starts. This is not an overly strong race outside of the favourite Salateen, and I think Vistabelle can run into the placings if she can run up to some of her Victorian form.
