Best bet | Race 1 #10 Major Artie

Love backing these NSW visitors when they take on a bunch of Queensland locals who seemingly battle it out between themselves most weeks. Trained by Waterhouse & Bott, this 4yo lands the perfect race with the featherweight of 52kg. He’s only fourth-up in the prep with all three runs this time in have been full of merit. This stage of the preparation appears to be perfect to show his best as fourth-up last prep he was beaten narrowly by Yukon on the Kensington. He’s the horse who should get a cheap lead in front, and with the huge drop in weight, should be winning.

Next best | Race 9 #5 Go Wandji

Only needs even luck to be winning the final race on this Eagle Farm circuit on which he is a proven performer. He’s a winner at this track and distance, and Larry Cassidy’s only blemish on the horse from four rides came last start when an absolute moral beaten at Doomben. Cassidy won’t be getting it wrong again and Eagle Farm at 1400m gives him every chance to find the gaps in the straight. The wide gate and some speed outside should give him a chance to be cuddled up, saving up his withering burst to have the last crack at the leaders.

Best each way | Race 3 #9 Our Red Planet

An underrated horse I’ve always had a bit of time for. He’s enigmatic, but talented on his day when things go his way. He’s a winner first-up, and performs well at this Eagle Farm track which isn’t always to every horse’s liking. The recent trial at Deagon was solid, and in-form Larry Cassidy stays aboard. From the wide gate he’ll get back and run on and is a huge price is an open race.
