Best bet – Race 9 # 1 Cristal Breeze

Keen on this 6yo who is third-up in a much easier race. He was entered for a race up here last week, but from memory they scratched because of a sticky draw. They haven’t fared any better here as they’ve come out with the widest barrier this time. However, the map reads ok as he can come across with likely leader Barney’s Law drawn just inside him. He could sit outside the lead or one-out, one-back. His form in Sydney just looks superior to his rivals and I’m very surprised he’s not favourite. Last run he was beaten less than three lengths behind Ellsberg, who is a likely contender in the upcoming Golden Eagle.

Next best – Race 4 #8 Better Get Set

Smart 4yo mare who I’m tipping will have a fruitful campaign. She’s already had the two runs back and I reckon she’s improved off what she produced last preparation. First-up she wasn’t beaten far by talented stablemate Contemptuous, before giving them a hiding at Ipswich. This is harder but she’s also drawn to get the perfect run. She can take another step in her career and continue going through the grades.

Best Each-Way – Race 8 #3 The Kewess

Had absolutely no luck last start and arguably should’ve won the race last start at Doomben behind He’s All Talk. He was charging to the line but got baulked in the final 50m and was almost put on the floor. I like that they’ve now got strong, experienced rider Jimmy Orman to take the ride and I also like that this Eagle Farm circuit will have a bit of juice out of it after recent rain. He’s drawn to get the right run in the first four and should be right in the finish.
