Our Gosford Horse Racing Tips for Wednesdays meeting.

Kooled (Gosford Race 1 No. 1)
This three-year-old Frosted gelding trained by Team Hawkes has one place from his two starts. On debut he chased hard and just missed for 0.1 length 2nd over 1200m at Canterbury on a heavy track with the best overall race sectionals. At his second start he went to Melbourne for the Group 2 Sires Produce where he finished 3.9 lengths 9th over 1400m at Flemington on 6 March, before a 26 week spell. He has won both lead-up trials and looks a big chance here.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

A Very Fine Red (Gosford Race 5 No. 8):
This three-year-old Deep Field filly trained by Mark Newnham has one win and one place from her three starts. After winning a Hawkesbury maiden on debut she was run down late for 0.9 length 4th in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on 17 April, then was spelled for 18 weeks. She resumed for 3.3 lengths 3rd on a heavy track over 1100m at Kensington on 25 August and looks a great each-way chance back to a good track.

Best Lay

Mayfair Spirit (Gosford Race 3 No. 1):
This five-year-old Charm Spirit gelding trained by Ciaron Maher & David Eustace has six wins and five places from 22 starts and is the early favourite in this BM 72 handicap over 1900m. When resuming after 39 weeks she ran on strongly out wide for 0.4 length 4th over 1615m at Sale on 25 July, then got too far back before running on for 5.7 lengths 8th over 2000m at Kembla Grange on 14 August. She tends to get well back and I’m prepared to risk her here.

Key Comments The Quokka (race 8) has $5 million prizemoney making it WA's richest race. There is also the Group 2 Karrrakatta Plate (race 7). The track is Good and the rail is +3 metres the entire circuit. Best Bet Yarralea (Ascot Race 2 No. 3) Last-start winner over 1500m at Ascot and draws to do no work. Should be hard to beat. Horse Racing Tips: VIC Friday 19th April 2024

Key Comments The rail is in 4 metres from the 1000m-380m mark and true for the remainder. The best bet looks primed to break through. Best Bet Elba ( Cranbourne Race 2 No. 6 ) Boasts 4 placings to date, all of them in some decent company and now Elba gets its chance to breakthrough. Tackles this off a freshen up, comes up with the pole position and looks poised to give this race a red hot shake. Analyst: Bryce Parker
