Our Newcastle Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

The main races are the $1,000,000 The Hunter and the Group 3 NJC Spring Stakes.

Vadiyann (Newcastle Race 3 No. 7)
This six-year-old gelding trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott is a lightly-raced import who has only had one start since arriving in Australia where he won a BM 88 Handicap over 2000m ar Randwick on 21 December after having several trials in the eight months prior to that. His three overseas wins were over 1900m to 2100m. He is first-up after a 47 week spell but has a win from two trials. Looks the likely winner.

Fiesta (Newcastle Race 7 No. 8):
This five-year-old I Am Invincible mare trained by Chris Waller has been going well in Melbourne this campaign. She won the Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield by 0.75 length on 10 October, then won the Group 3 Begonia Belle Stakes over 1100m at Flemington by 1.25 lengths on 31 October. She has been finishing her races strongly and looks a good each-way bet.

Cecilia (Newcastle Race 2 No. 14):
This four-year-old Darci Brahma mare trained by Aleacia Bennett at Muswellbrook has a solid record of two wins and four places from six starts and is the early favourite in this Highway Class 3 Handicap over 1300m. She finished 0.2,0.31 lengths 3rd over 1200m at Port Macquarie on 9 October, then drove clear soon after straightening and won by 3.03 lengths in a Class 1 handicap over 1200m at Newcastle on a heavy track on 27 October. She goes down in weight but up in class and is a query since both wins have been on rain-affected going.
