Staralign (Kalgoorlie Race 6 No. 4)
This six-year-old Universal Ruler gelding trained by Peter Fernie has seven wins and 12 places from 28 starts. He led early but faded in the run to the line and finished 12.9 lengths 13th over 2200m at Belmont on 26 June then had a 10 week let-up. On resuming he was held-up badly from the 400m to 100m and finished 1.9 lengths 2nd. Is a track specialist with five wins and five places from 11 rus here, and looks the leading hope.
Bright Glow (Kalgoorlie Race 5 No. 5):
This five-year-old Nicconi gelding trained by Peter Fernie has three wins and eight places from 18 starts. He ran on strongly to get there in the last stride for a narrow win over 1200m at Kalgoorlie on 15 August, then arrived late again to win over 1100m at Northam on 2 September. Looks a good each-way chance in this race.
Living The Dream (Kalgoorlie Race 6 No. 8):
This six-year-old Artie Schiller horse is the early favourite in the Boulder Cup over 2100m. He fought on until his run ended at the 150m to finish 3.8 lengths 4th in the Blue Spec Stakes over 1600m at Belmont on 21 August, then was strong to the line winning the Coolgardie Cup over 1760m at Kalgoorlie on 5 September. Hasn’t won beyond that distance and I think he will run well but won’t be the winner.

Best bet – Race 9 # 1 Cristal Breeze Keen on this 6yo who is third-up in a much easier race. He was entered for a race up here last week, but from memory they scratched because of a sticky draw. They haven’t fared any better here as they’ve come out with the widest barrier this time. However, the map reads ok as he can come across with likely leader Barney’s Law drawn just inside him. He could sit outside the lead or one-out, one-back. His form in Sydney just looks
