Our Moonee Valley Horse Racing Tips for the weekend.

The main race is the $5 million Cox Plate. Read our 2020 Cox Plate Preview.

Young Werther (Moonee Valley Race 6 No. 6)
This Tavistock gelding trained by Danny O’Brien has only had two starts but looks to be well above average. He debuted with a 1.25 length win over 1500m in a 3YO maiden plate at Geelong on 6 September, then went straight to a Listed race. He was held up from the 500-400m and hung in before balancing up to run on strongly and just miss for 0.2 length 2nd in the Super Impose Stakes over 1800m at Flemington on 3 October. He gets the winkers on for the first time and this distance should suit.

Each Way

Sound (Moonee Valley Race 8 No. 7):
This eight-year-old horse has ran 2nd at his last two starts. He drove hard along the rails to just miss over 2040m at Moonee Valley on 5 September, then took over at the 350m , was headed at the 200m and fought hard to the line for a length 2nd in the Group 3 The Bart Cummings over 2510m at Flemington on 3 October. He drops i weight and looks an excellent each-way bet.

Best Lay

Portland Sky (Moonee Valley Race 3 No. 5):
This Deep Field colt is the early favourite in the Group 3 Red Anchor Stakes over 1200m. He has had three starts and won a maiden plate at Ballarat on debut then was held up and dashed home for 2.8 lengths 5th over 1000m at Caulfield on 19 September, At his latest start he chased solidly for 1.55 lengths in the Listed Poseidon Stakes over 1100m at Flemington on 3 October. He has drawn the inside barrier but offers no value
