After running 2nd at his last two starts this eight-year-old Shocking gelding looks ready to win. He led before being overpowered in the final 100m for 1.8 lengths 2nd in the Bordertown Cup over 2000m on 12 December, then was gathered in late for 0.1 length 2nd over 2040m at Morphettville on 26 December. Has a big claim and the inside barrier, Should be hard to beat.

This eight-year-old Oamaru Force gelding trained by Richard Nicholson at Mount Gambier has three wins and 11 places from 27 starts. He kept coming to get there in the final stride for a 0.3 length win over 1100m at Bordertown on 12 December, then fought gamely but was overpowered in the final 25m for 0.3 length 2nd over 1100m at Naracoorte on 27 December. Has won twice at this track and looks a good each-way chance.

Rouge Renarde (Bordertown Race 2 No. 9):
This five-year-old Nicconi mare is the early favourite in this 3YO & Up Maiden handicap over 1100m. She hit the line hard late out wide for 0.8 length 6th over 1100m at Gawler on 1 December, then worked home nicely from well back in the field for 1.2 lengths 3rd over 1050m at Oakbank on 22 December. Has drawn barrier 12 and willing to risk her here.
