Our Murray Bridge Racing Tips for the New Year’s Day meeting.

Sheezabigdeel (Murray Bridge Race 2 No. 3)
This five-year-old Dundeel mare trained by Matt Cumani has two wins and two places from 12 starts. She took the lead at the 250m but was grabbed on the line for 0.1 length 2nd over 2000m at Warrnambool on 28 November, then battled on steadily for 4.6 lengths 3rd over 2150m at Terang on 20 December. A tough mare who is fitter after three runs and will be hard to beat.

How to pick a winner

Each Way

Spectacle (Murray Bridge Race 8 No. 9):
This four-year-old Teofilo mare trained by Tony & Calvin McEvoy has two wins and three places from 11 starts. She won a BM 62 by 1.2 lengths over 1400m at Balaklava on 24 November, then finished 0.8 length 4th in a BM 76 over 1600m at Morphettville on 17 December. Goes well at this distance and looks a great each-way chance.

Best Lay

Bea Tempted (Murray Bridge Race 5 No. 1):
This seven-year-old Reset mare trained by Patrick Payne is the early favourite in this BM 78 Handicap over 1800m. She chased steadily for 4.1 lengths 5th over 2000m at Caulfield on 13 October, then resumed from a nine week let-up for 2.6 lengths 9th over 1600m at Flemington on 18 December. With the big weight and wide barrier she doesn’t offer value.

Key Comments The track is a synthetic tapeta-based surface and weather has minimal effect on how it races. The rail remains in the true position. As a general rule, runners who land in the front half of the field are suited at this track, with a slight advantage to those who land forward of midfield and can find a cart into the race from the wider lanes in the straight.
