Majestic Star | (Sha Tin Race 5 No.4) / Kurpany | (Sha Tin Race 5 No.1)

This is the highlight of the card, a nice Class 1 but it is a shame that there are only nine runners. Majestic Star rated well last start in his return to Happy Valley but it was the start prior on the all-weather over this distance that rated even better. With an ideal draw and Teetan remaining aboard, he is a huge chance to make it three in a row. Kurpany and his trainer have high hopes after this, so with those hopes, you would think they are confident to take this one out. He is aiming for three in a row also and will likely lead from the ideal draw. He gets the valuable 2.5kg claim from his regular jockey and he will be giving them something to catch.

Suggested bet: 1.5 units @ $2.90 / 1 unit @ $4.20

Next Best

Romantic Combo | (Sha Tin Race 7 No.9) / Skyey Supreme | (Sha Tin Race 7 No.10)

Romantic Combo was a total forgive from last start, going back from the wide barrier in a race where coming from off the speed wasn’t the go. He gets a much better draw and Teetan back aboard, whilst being back up to 1800m. He will put himself in the finish if they sit closer this time around. I am putting a line through the last start of Skyey Supreme who ran around on the turf and faded badly over a distance I think is short of his best. Despite only having one go over the 1800m which was a failure, he didn’t have the same set-up as today. He maps well and should get an easy lead with very little weight on his back. He will take catching.

Suggested bet: 0.7 Unit @ $6.00 / 0.3 unit @ $15.00

The Rest of the Card

Amazing Teens | (Sha Tin Race 1 No.2)

This does look like a tough race to start the day on. Landed with this bloke who has drawn ideally here, and I like the return to the all-weather. His best runs have been over this distance on the all-weather, and I expect Zac to get him into an ideal spot to have every chance.

Suggested bet: No Bet @ $2.90

Star of Glory | (Sha Tin Race 2 No.1)

I am going with Star of Glory here with no confidence. He made his return to Class 5 last time out and wasn’t disgraced when dropping back to the second half of the field and flying home to finish fourth, despite being blocked around the 300m mark. Back on the all-weather suits, as does the drop back to the 1650m and the draw is ideal for him to sit a lot closer in the run, especially with the 1.5kg of Chan.

Suggested bet: No Bet @ $9.50

Flying Dragon | (Sha Tin Race 3 No.2)

Another who is back to the all-weather and will appreciate every inch of it. I am willing to put a line through last start and go to the run prior where he was a solid third behind Eight Trigrams on the all-weather. His best runs have been on this surface and the prospect of drawing the inside with Purton on cannot be ignored.

Suggested bet: No Bet @ $2.70

Hong Kong Horse Race

Masterwork| (Sha Tin Race 4 No.10) / Regency Gem | (Sha Tin Race 4 No.9)

I am under the assumption the Golden Mission will end up favourite here, and I like two who come out of the same race as him last start. Masterwork began awkwardly on the day and unfortunately finished 1.3 lengths off the winner. He gets to meet Golden Mission 2.5kg better off for that and has drawn well enough to sit close up, providing he starts well enough. The other I like is Regency Gem who ran fourth in that race after starting flat-footed as the gates opened and settled a long last. He flew home in good sectionals but was ordered to trial due to his barrier manners, which he did. He has a big chance to redeem himself here, finally drawing a gate, and providing he starts with them, he is a big chance.

Suggested bet: 0.6 unit @ $7.00 / 0.8 unit @ $5.50

Fiery Diamond | (Sha Tin Race 6 No.4)

This bloke finished three lengths back in fifth last start with no explanation for his poor performance as a short-priced favourite. I love that Joao has stuck with him and they had added the blinkers for the first time, which should make a huge difference. They will likely head forward from the wide draw, so hopefully, they commit and don’t get stuck wide.

Suggested bet: 1 unit @ $4.20

Lightning Bolt | (Sha Tin Race 8 No.7)

It is hard to ignore Lightning Bolt’s maiden win in Hong Kong on the all-weather last start. He came from midfield with a tremendous run to salute in an impressive fashion. He has a similar set-up here but his draw of barrier 11 is going to make his task a lot harder. He is going to need luck and providing there is no bias, he will be flying late in the piece.

Suggested bet: No Bet @ $2.60

Best Bet Just Joan (Bathurst Race 1 No. 9) She can land up on speed and prove hard to run down from the good draw. Maps to get favours from there and looks the right price at the $3.00 mark.
