Carlton Blues v Geelong Cats (Thursday Night)
Another cracking game to get us underway in round 2. Geelong were in front for much of the night in round 1 but couldn’t hold off an insatiable Collingwood who ran over the top of the reigning premiers with a 5 goal to 1 final quarter. The Blues will be frustrated they gave up a late goal to Tom Lynch which meant their match against Richmond resulted in a draw. However, I would argue that Richmond had the better of Carlton in general play and it was just their forward fifty inefficiency that let them down. Significant injury blows for both sides here. The Blues lose Martin and Hewitt whilst Geelong loses Tom Stewart for 3-4 weeks. The Cats will be desperate to avoid a 0 & 2 start to their premiership defence and I think they find a way to get over the line in this.
Suggested Bet – Geelong H2H (Multis)
Brisbane Lions v Melbourne Demons (Friday Night)
Despite missing four premiership heroes (Salem, May, Fritsch, Viney) the Demons well and truly lived up to the pre-season hype in round 1. They ran rings around the Doggies moving the footy from one end to the other with consummate ease. The Lions, who were also a boom team leading into round 1, were the complete opposite. They were thoroughly disappointing against the Power after going into the game a heavily backed commodity. They get the advantage of playing at home this week and are capable of bouncing back but at the current prices I simply have to be with the Demons, there are just too many holes in the Lions defence.
Suggested Bet – Melbourne Line (-1.5)
Collingwood Magpies v Port Adelaide Power (Saturday)
There are some amazing games again in round 2 but after the performances of these two sides in round 1 I think this might just be the best of them. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe Collingwood’s performance against the Cats. Their ball movement in particular was absolutely sensational and were it not for Geelong’s pin point accuracy in front of goal the margin could have been greater. Port made a round 1 statement at home running all over the Lions in the second half to win by 54 points. That will fill their group with a lot of confidence but I’m not sure there is a greater test than the Pies at the G moment. Take the Pies in multis.
Suggested Bet – Collingwood H2H (Multis)
Western Bulldogs v St Kilda Saints (Saturday Night)
I got the Saints horribly wrong in round 1. Much to my surprise they found a way to win against the Dockers in their first game under returning coach Ross Lyon. That being said I am doubling down. Their forward line is very very poor with out the likes of King and Membrey and they come up against a Doggies side who will be hungry for redemption after a round 1 defeat to Melbourne. To put it simply the Doggies are a much better team on paper and look the bet of the round to my eye.
Suggested Bet – Western Bulldogs Line (-12.5)
Sydney Swans v Hawthorn Hawks (Sunday)
Big class edge here for Sydney. They will get this done comfortably and are a good option for some cream in multis.
Suggested Bet – Sydney H2H (Multis)
