Shannara (Scone Race 6 No. 2)
This five-year-old Octagonal mare from the Peter Snowden stable is $5.50 equal favourite in the early market. She has 4 wins and 7 places from 19 starts, and won this race in 2011. She ran 2.8 lengths 5th in the Doncaster Prelude on 14 April, then was 0.6 length 4th in the Group 3 Emancipation on 28 April. Is nicely drawn but has lots of weight and is up against some last-start winners. |

What is Lay Betting?
Basically a Lay Bet or to 'Lay a Horse' is to make a bet that
the horse will not win.
- If you 'lay a horse' and the horse loses the race = You Win
- If you 'lay a horse' and the horse actually wins the race = You
Lose
Why is Lay Betting becoming more popular?
The main reason this form of betting is becoming more popular over
recent years is due to the introduction of Betting Exchanges like
Betfair. Punters can now match bets with other punters on the exchange
platform which enables either backing a horse to win or laying a horse
to lose.
What are the advantages of Lay Betting?
One of the key advantages to lay betting is that by laying a particular
horse, we are effectively backing all the other horses in the race
to win. For example if we have laid one horse in an 18 horse field,
we now have 17 other horses running for us. This enables good lay
punters to enjoy much higher strike rates.
Where can I place Lay Bets?
Betfair is the biggest online betting exchange and licensed to
operate in Australia. If you are new to lay betting then we recommend
you take a look at Betfair and familiarise yourself with the betting
exchange format. There are plenty of tutorials to help get you started
and a great way to determine if Lay Betting suits your punting style.
