The United States Open tennis championship
is the fourth and final Grand Slam event on the tennis calendar. Commencing
in August/September each year the tournament lasts for 2 weeks and is
held at the USTA National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows in New York
City.
The US Open first began back in 1881 and and has now grown to be the world richest tennis tournament with a one million dollar prize cheque awarded to the winner of the men's and women's singles tournaments. The tennis court surfaces at the US Open are all hardcourt which produce some very high speed tennis action during the tournament.Like the other Grand Slam tournaments, the US Open consists of the following competition events:
